From the 1st of April 2015, property owners will receive a residence permit in Montenegro



Montenegro joined to the list of countries providing "golden visa." The law was adopted by Parliament of Montenegro in December 2014, and it enters into force on 1st of April 2015.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro presented the draft of the Law in December of 2013. Thus, it took 1 year to its adoption.

 

The law provides the opportunities to foreigners-owners of real estate in Montenegro to get a residence permit for a period of one year, with the subsequent extension. But the Law has the concept of "minimum price of the property." Ministry of Finance of Montenegro has to define the price bar before the 1st of April, 2015.

 

Also the Law simplifies the procedure to obtain a residence permit for foreign workers in Montenegro. Now, instead of two documents (residence permit and work permit) foreign workers will only a document in the form of a plastic card.

 

Previously, it was necessary to register a company in Montenegro to obtain a residence permit, it was the most common reason. Sure, a registered company requires expenses to maintain it.

In general, there are a few reasons to get a residence permit: marriage, family reunion, education, etc. Now it was added one more reason - ownership of the real estate in Montenegro.

 

The adoption of the Aliens Act will have a positive impact on the real estate market in Montenegro, which was in a state of stagnation for the past 4 years. The main inflow of buyers wanted get a residence permit in Montenegro, it is expected from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
